Episodic Exposure Dosing Instructions
There are 2 recommended dosing protocols, and one alternative protocol.
Dosing Protocol #1 - for commercial flights and for x-ray based procedures that do not utilize a radioactive isotope (examples -
chest x-rays, dental x-rays, mammography, CT scans):
- Take one dose of R1 (one dose = one packet = 3 pills) 15 - 60 minutes before the exposure
- Take another dose of R1 (one dose = one packet = 3 pills) two hours after the exposure
Dosing Protocol #2 - for x-ray based procedures that utilize radioactive isotopes (examples - thallium, technetium, gallium,
indium):
- Take one dose of R1 (one dose = one packet = 3 pills) 15 - 60 minutes before the exposure
- Take another dose of R1 (one dose = one packet = 3 pills) two hours after the exposure
- Take additional doses of R1 (one dose = one packet = 3 pills) morning and evening for at least three times the half-life of the isotope
(see http://www.iem-inc.com/toolhalf.html for isotope half-lives). Thus,
if the half-life is 3 days, then 2 doses should be taken on the day of the procedure and 2 doses should be taken each day for an additional 9 days.
Alternative to Dosing Protocol #2:
When attempting to counter the potentially harmful effects of a radioactive isotope, the optimal strategy is to continue taking BioShield-Radiation®
until the potency of the isotope has reached a negligible level. Accordingly, the best approach (from the perspective of both efficacy and
cost-effectiveness) may be to utilize R2 for these procedures as follows:
- Begin taking R2 two days before the procedure (3 pills in the morning and 3 pills in the evening)
- Continue taking R2 twice per day (3 pills in the morning and 3 pills in the evening) until the bottle is finished
Procedures that do not involve radiation and thus do not need BioShield-Radiation®:
- Ultrasound
- MRI
- Thermography
